Overview

The Surgical Oncology Department in the Sri Ram Cancer Centre (SRCC) at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Hospital (MGMCH), Jaipur is a comprehensive facility offering a multitude of services that covers a large gamut of aliments.

Complex cancer surgery crossing boundaries of organ specialisation including Head & Neck, Breast, Colorectal, Skin, Upper & Lower GI, Gynae, Hepatobiliary, Musculoskeletal, Genitourinary and Thoracic Oncology are being performed. Under the able guidance of Dr. Raj Govind Sharma and his team, we are growing in number of cancer procedures and surgeries per month with the full support of the management - Dr. M.L. Swarnakar (Chairperson Emeritus MGUMST) & Dr. Vikas C Swarankar (Chairperson MGUMST).

All the patients that come to SRCC are discussed in a multidisciplinary tumour board with other services like Medical & Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear medicine, Onco pathology, cytopathology and treated accordingly.

A team of expert Surgical Oncologists performs open, minimal invasive surgeries, node biopsy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, HIPEC and various complex cancer surgeries. We have a team of experts in the physical rehabilitation medicine department who look at prehabilitation and rehabilitation of cancer patients. We also have a nutrition and psychotherapy team for a holistic approach towards the patients.

We do have a dedicated plastic surgery team which does all our reconstruction. The Department also runs preventive services and manages various post-treatment support groups to help the patients cope up with day-to-day challenges. We have three MCh (Surgical Oncology) course seats per year; the postgraduate students are trained in various aspects of oncology.

We have regular academic activities like case discussion, journal club, grand rounds, subject seminar, faculty lecture, histopathology meet, radiology meet, tumor board, every week & daily skill development programme in the evening. Formal training and hands-on-experience with original scientific research, protocol and clinical trial development, manuscript preparation, and presentations at local, regional, and national forums/ conference are important components of the MCh training.

Attendance of faculty and residents at national and international Surgical Oncology meetings is liberally supported by the University.
Surgical Oncology

The Department provides the students a broad clinical experience in surgery with a solid foundation in the surgical management of complex oncology disease, including (but not limited to) minimally invasive and open surgeries.

Outpatient Departments

Patients receive initial consultations, follow-up appointments, and post-operative care in our well-equipped OPDs. Here, they can discuss their concerns and treatment plans with our experienced surgical oncologists.

Oral Oncology Procedure Room

Specifically designed for oral cancer cases, this room allows for thorough examination and diagnosis of oral conditions. Early detection is crucial in improving treatment outcomes for oral cancers.

Minor OT

For minor surgical procedures that don't require full operating theater facilities, our department offers a dedicated Minor OT. This setup ensures efficiency and convenience for patients undergoing smaller interventions. Cutting-edge facilities enable the performance of various types of biopsies, aiding in the accurate diagnosis of tumors and other abnormalities. Well equipped with various biopsy forceps, fibro-optic laryngeoscope, colposcopes etc.

Preoperative Wards

Patients awaiting surgical procedures receive personalized care in our preoperative wards. Here, they undergo necessary pre-surgical preparations and consultations with the surgical team.

ICUs (Intensive Care Units)

State-of-the-art ICUs equipped with advanced monitoring and life-support systems ensure optimal post-operative care for patients requiring intensive monitoring and support.

Post-operative Wards

Following surgical procedures, patients recuperate in our dedicated post-operative wards under the attentive care of our nursing staff and surgical team.Long-term care and follow-up appointments are integral components of our patient care approach. We monitor patients' progress, address any concerns, and provide ongoing support throughout their recovery journey.

Departmental Library

Our department houses a specialized library stocked with resources relevant to surgical oncology. This facilitates continuous learning, research, and professional development for our staff and trainees.

Seminar Rooms

Regular seminars, workshops, and academic sessions are conducted in our seminar rooms. These sessions foster knowledge sharing, skill enhancement, and collaborative learning among our team members.
